Bexar County’s $500 Million Flood Control Program Will Improve Area’s Worst Low Water Crossings
Ingram Road Bridge Included in First Phase of Projects
September's heavy rains remind us how flood-prone our community is and that it only takes a few inches of rain to turn a quiet street into a raging river. Fortunately, while our community has been suffering through extreme drought, Bexar County Flood Control has been focused on improving some of the area’s most dangerous low water crossings, including Ingram Road, which was closed early in the month due to flooding.
Bexar County is funding a $12 million flood control project to build a bridge on Ingram Road with construction slated to begin in November 2010. The Ingram Road project is one of 24 projects in Phase I of the 10-year, $500 million Flood Control Program.
Bexar County Flood Control Division Manager Art Villarreal spoke with local TV news stations on 9/11/09 about the planned improvements to the Ingram Road Low Water Crossing.
